Martin Evans, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has a certificate for Special Competence in Medical Microbiology from the American Board of Pathology. He is currently a professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. He served as the hospital epidemiologist for the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center from 1993 to 2003, and for the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 2003 through 2008.
In January 2009, he assumed the position of associate director of the nationwide Veterans Health Administration MRSA Prevention Initiative, and was promoted to director the following year when the initiative expanded to include the prevention of other multidrug-resistant organisms. A noted expert on Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, Dr. Evans has published more than 65 papers and book chapters; received 15 research grants from university, industry, and federal sources; and given numerous lectures at local, state, and national venues.
